In addition to cases and screen protectors, the security on our smartphone mainly requires software and apps.
There are plenty of threats lurking online, from phishing emails that can capture login credentials to iOS and Android malware that instantly attacks our device. Here's a list of the most serious threats we should consistently avoid.
Â
Gaps in device security
Often they occur when technology, such as Bluetooth, the chosen app or system, is not updated to the latest version. Further vulnerabilities are exposed by jailbreaking, or breaking the device's security; for example, a broken iPhone will be able to install apps outside the App Store at the user's risk.
Â
Data leaks
Hackers and exploiters can take a screenshot of your mobile activity and harvest potentially private or confidential information that was previously stored on your cell phone! For example, when you upload company files to the cloud, paste into the wrong window or forward an email to the wrong recipient, it causes a data window to open on the device.
Â
Wi-Fi interference
We are so used to connecting to available Wi-Fi hotspots that we forget that they are not necessarily secure. There is a way to track activity and information from public Wi-Fi using specialized software or apps. It's best to be cautious when using public Wi-Fi - don't make financial transactions or log into banking platforms.
Â
Sociotech
Social engineering is common among mobile (as well as landline) users. It often involves impersonating a "friend," company or banking institution to obtain personal information such as usernames, passwords and login credentials through dangerous but well-known links that direct you to suspicious websites.
