A certain system Windows 10, used to operate measuring devices, had aged terribly. It was not designed for network operation, and did not belong to any domain (understandable in this situation, skittishness doomed it to edit "Home").
As you can see, the system even demands an upgrade to a higher version. Currently, it is difficult to even install system patches on it, as they are no longer being released. After downloading ISO file, unzipping it, the "upgrade" process was selected
However, the system refused to give up without a fight in order to keep its current version number:
It looks quite exotic. Remembering that I booted the computer normally (not from the installation media), I somehow found it hard to believe that I was working in a Windows PE. Reviewing the logs (Panther directory) unfortunately confirmed that when running on Windows PE, one should not expect to perform a system upgrade. So maybe the system is cheating by presenting itself as Windows PE, or MiniNT? Indeed, looking in the registry you could come across such a key:
